AO Clinical Fellowship in Spinal Surgery
Princess Alexandra and Mater Children’s Hospitals, Brisbane, Australia

The AO Fellowship is sponsored by the AOSpine Reference Centre and is located at the Princess Alexandra and Mater Children's Hospitals in Brisbane under the supervision of Drs Richard Williams and Geoff Askin. The Princess Alexandra Hospital is the site of Queensland's only 40-bed Spinal Injuries Unit (SIU). It manages all spinal injuries, with neurological involvement in the State of Queensland and its surrounds — servicing approximately 4 million people. Spinal fellows will be exposed to a broad scope of adult and paediatric spine surgery encompassing traumatic and non-traumatic (degenerative, deformity, neoplastic, and infectious) conditions. The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at Mater Children’s Hospital offers advanced training in paediatric spinal deformities. This fellowship provides comprehensive training in the surgical and conservative treatment of paediatric spinal disorders, encompassing a broad range of cases from the standard to the most complex deformities.

I belong to a developing country (India) where there are limited avenues for further training in pediatric orthopaedics. I am currently on a international pediatric orthopaedic fellowship at Cincinnati children’s hospital, Cincinnati, USA. I am working as a registrar in Dept of orthopaedics, ESI Hospital, Delhi. I am working as a registrar in Dept of orthopaedics, ESI Hospital, Delhi,India.I I have four years of experience in pediatric orthopaedics after completing my postgraduation. I was previously working as registrar in dept of orthopedics, All India Institute of Medical sciences, Delhi.
In my present role at my home institute, i have to manage all the pediatric orthopaedic cases in the institute, Since i am the sole pediatric orthoapedicain in the institute.Sine my institute is a high volume center and have to deal with referrals, this gives me immense opportunity to change the lives of many patients and parents. Apart from this i have to teach orthopaedic postgraduates. This gives me plenty of opportunity to disseminate my knowledge to my juniors and encourage them to pursue a career in pediatric orthopaedic.

I am currently a consultant paediatric orthopaedic surgeon at Hamad General Hospital, Doha, Qatar and assistant professor at Weill Cornell Medical College, Doha, Qatar. I have been working in Doha, Qatar for the past 12 months.
My clinical responsibilities include the management of a wide spectrum of paediatric orthopaedic surgery conditions such as cerebral palsy, Ponseti technique for clubfoot in addition to foot and ankle surgery, benign paediatric musculoskeletal tumours and paediatric trauma and fracture management. My particular interest includes reconstructive surgery of the hip in children (Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip and Perthes Disease) and limb deformity correction and lengthening. I have started a limb reconstruction and lengthening service in Doha, Qatar using circular external fixators (Taylor Spatial Frame and Illizarov Frame). I only review paediatric cases in my elective outpatient clinic and have dedicated weekly paediatric elective theatre sessions. In addition to my elective surgery, I have a dedicated fracture clinic that predominately covers paediatric orthopaedic trauma with dedicated orthopaedic trauma theatre sessions that covers both adult and paediatric patients.
I have recently been appointed the program director for the paediatric orthopaedic surgery fellowship program and I am a member of the orthopaedic surgery residency training program.
